Cast bronze, malachite

Making jewellery requires you to problem-solve. Often designing to a brief, you can be required to incorporate gemstones that hold sentimental value to the client. The ‘Vessel’ series had just that brief. An existing piece of malachite formed the first building block of this project, all other parts of this series were influenced by it. Experimenting with shape and form led to a series of palm sized lidded vessels. The free-form polished malachite became a ‘lid’ covering a secret compartment for a personal treasure or keepsake. Each of the vessels in the series deals with texture in a different way - on the first, the bronze takes on the appearance of soft lines, a drawing gone wild.
