Nebula Door Fixtures (pair)

by Ewan Tremellen 2021

Cast bronze with verdigris patina, 'butterfly pair' of natural agate slices.

"A door fixture can be very rudimentary object but can also tell you what to expect when you enter a room. My goal in creating this pair of door fixtures was to use the skills of my jewellery making background to showcase a beautiful mineral which would usually involve metalwork, gemstones and setting them together in a way that is pleasing to the eye as well as wanting you to touch and explore every detail. The “D” handles on the reverse of the door are moulded to fit individual grips, giving a very personal touch to the work. The ‘Butterfly pair’ of natural untreated Agate slices hold a universe of intricacies on their own and pairing them with strong yet tactile bronze allows them to be used as both a practical object and tell the visitor that they can expect a special and unusual place."
